Years ago Citroen, Peugeot and Toyota teamed up to make a very small city car, the C1, 107 and Aygo respectively.
The first ones were almost identical, except the front end.
They weren't anything fantastic just cheap little runabouts similarly priced and built on the same production line. The tailgate was a one piece glass affair to save on building costs and keep the sale price down along with non opening rear windows and a not particularly attractive dash.
Fast forward to the 2015 model and things have changed quite a bit.
The new Citroen C1 looks good, bar those headlights.
The new Peugeot 108 is the best looking one for me. Definitely looks like the new Peugeot design philosophy.
However Toyota went a little bizarre with it's frontal look, the side and rear still look okay but that front, just no.
I mean look at it, what were they thinking.
EDIT: the 107 was renamed 108 with the new one.

I think the Aygo looks fine. Toyota knows what their buyers like. And seemingly enough, the Japanese culture seems to like outlandish looking cars.
I'm sure production versions of non-JDM models will be toned down.

The Toyota looks very angry about being such a small car.

I've heard some pretty poor reviews of the new cars so far, but the Peugeot is a looker for a small car.

And we don't get any of them.

Toyota's auditioning for the new Mad Max movie.

The Toyota is the production look. There is a Toyota dealership near my work with 'GO FUN YOURSELF' written on the front door and front wing.
Similar to this one.

I really think, the 107 is the best-looking of them all, espescially in person, saw one at the Peugeot dealer nearby today. Just the style patterns are somewhat confusing... One is even advertised by pop-singer Lykke Li, guess they thought, it was "hip" or "trendy" or whatever they wanted to implicate with that.

I like the way Peugeot is going at the moment with it's design.

Ye', that's the bit I really can't get past. No likey.

Definitely a step forward from the big smiley mouths they used to have. The new 208 gti interests me at the moment, would like to see how it stacks up against the fiesta st.

I don't think your really missing out. They are similar size to the Nissan Micra, though easily better looking than the Micra.

They all had subtle facelifts a couple of years back but not enough to make them really different.

Yes, not that long ago that Top Gear considered the last-gen 308 one of the worst cars of all time, and I really could understand them.

From what I've read the Fiesta ST is more hardcore and the better toy, the GTi is better all round and the better fun commuter.

That's a Euro model. Is the Aygo even available in Japan?

The Peugeot 208 GTi certainly is a looker but don't think it'll be a threat against the Fiesta ST.
Autocar didn't rate it all too highly.
Four-cylinder 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine now running its higher 197bhp RCZ output. Sounds good though.

Interesting!!! It actually looks pretty interesting from that angle...

The old 308 was a bit of a let down (a couple of friends have them) but are good for small families to get about.

Well I'll be damned!
It actually looks pretty nice at any camera angle than what's pictured in the OP. I'd drive one. Like a pissed robot-insect!

The side and rear look okay.
Even without the black accented front end it still doesn't grab me.

Hmm could be an interesting option then, especially since the peugeot will probably be a better used buy.

I do think the headlights are a little weird though. They flow with the design, but don't look like they fit overall...Hmmm...
Dare I say, that all body colour front end on the Prius might actually look cool.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 16:30 |

Sounds reasonable but not as good as the fiesta, might make a good used buy given peugeots depreciation.

The old 308 was panned by Top Gear due to the high expectations you'd have after driving 90s Peugeots. The ungainly looks didn't help either. It wasn't a horrible car though, it was just rather forgettable. Which is a let down due to its predecessors (not the 307).
I personally own a 406 coupe (very good) and a 205 GTi (brilliant). A friend of mine owns a first gen 308, with the crappy BMW Mini engine. While it's obviously better to drive than something like a Toyota it's still, well, meh. I drove the new 308 as well. It's far better.

Yeah, but there was nothing particular because of what you'd actually want to buy one over, say ,a Golf or a Octavia or a Focus, the List goes on...
It lacked the "Flair" of past french cars, as the current Citroen C4 does (which is no bad car, just a boring one) and by practical motives, there were way better alternatives, which weren't that... ugly.

I'll take the 108. Now if someone wants the C1.

Hmmmm.

For looks I'd probably go towards the 208GTi as the Fiesta ST is starting to look run of the mill as I see them absolutely everywhere these days.

I adore the 406s styling, especially the early ones are purely beautiful.

How come? Do they depreciate faster in the UK? As far as I know the Fiesta depreciates similar to slightly faster than an equivalent 208 here in the Netherlands.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 16:39 |
|
I'm going off what I've generally seen of peugeots in the last few years, the french manufacturers often seem to depreciate faster here. The 208 might hold value better though.

Peugeot and Citroen are starting to return to what they are known for as some of the Citroens are a little stade compared to their DS sisters.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 16:40 |
|
Yeah I prefer the proportions of the 208 too.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 16:43 |
|
My experience is that larger French cars do depreciate relatively rapidly. The smaller ones don't, especially when they're seen as attractive (206, 208) rather than unattractive (207). Given that depreciation is almost purely based on emotion there can be huge differences between countries or areas though.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 16:48 |
|
True, but also their "normal" lineup keeps getting better, Peugeot, as can be seen on the 208, the 508 RXH, the new 308 (SW) and now the 108. At Citroen, I, personally, really dig the C4 Picasso, which is one of the best cars for a family of four or five, especially as Grand Picasso.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 16:52 |

They are getting better. I think the DS s were far better looking and probably made the regular cars look pale.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 17:04 |

206s are dirt cheap here mostly and generally less than an older fiesta, havent seen prices on the 208 tho.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 17:12 |
|
Yes, but when the 206 was a recent used car (a decade ago) it was a popular car that commanded significant used prices. More so than turn of the century Fiestas, which weren't (and aren't) seen as attractive. That was my, poorly worded, point. Nowadays the 206 is a 16 year old design and prices reflect that.

The previous gen Aygo sounds pretty cool. like a kart.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 18:10 |

Sounds, looks and feels are three very different things. Name sounds good, looks were bland and felt like not much was happening. :) Though they were similarly priced the Aygo was £1,000 more than the C1. My colleague got the Aygo (genuinely) because she thought the C1 wasn't as well built. Even though it was the same production line in the same factory.

I meant the engine sound.

My bad, I thought you mean't the name 'Aygo'. I don't recall what it sounded like to be honest.

On a par with the Citroen C1 though I think the Peugeot was slightly better looking. Slightly.
